School choir perform for HRH Queen Elizabeth II and HRH Duke of Edinburgh
| On Tuesday 27th April 2010, The Queen and Prince Phillip made a Royal Visit to Llandudno as part of their UK tour to celebrate the Queen’s forthcoming jubilee. The Royal Party were to meet people from the volunteer sector at Venue Cymru to thank them for their tireless work. Thousands of people lined the promenade in Llandudno and when The Royal Party approached the entrance to the theatre they were confronted with 40 glorious voices singing songs such as ‘Calon Lan’, ‘Sit Down You’re Rockin’ The Boat’ and some Cerdd Dant pieces, sung in perfect harmony………….. And the origin of these heavenly voices ??? Well none other than Ysgol Bryn Elian choir. Our school choir were chosen to perform for the Queen and Prince Phillip. It was an honour to be the only Secondary School in North Wales to be asked. As the Royal Party walked past, both the Queen and the Prince stopped on the stairs to listen to and appreciate the glorious music being performed. They were very appreciative of all the hard work which went in to the performance and Her Majesty commented that the choir had obviously been working very hard to produce such a cohesive sound. Not only were the choir asked to perform for the Queen but they also performed a 40 minute set in the auditorium to entertain the guests while they waited excitedly to meet the Monarch. So strong was the performance of the choir that several of the guests came up at the end to congratulate all involved. We were also very honoured to be part of the Royal line up as the Queen entered the auditorium. She kindly smiled at us all as she passed and Prince Phillip came over to speak to members of the choir and the staff. As if all of this wasn’t enough, all the members of the choir were also guests of the Lord Sheriff of Clwyd in the auditorium to witness the unveiling of the plaque by the Queen to commemorate the Royal visit. All in all a fantasic day for all involved – Who needs to be on Britain’s got talent?? Ysgol Bryn Elian’s choir has already performed in front of the Queen. In fact we had a captive audience, which other school choir can say that? |
